Return-to-Sport Testing in Pflugerville, TX

Stop Guessing. Know You're Ready.

Return-to-sport testing at OPAL gives athletes and active adults in Pflugerville objective data on readiness — so the decision to return isn't based on how you feel, but on how you actually perform.

For Athletes Who Won't Risk Re-Injury on a Gut Feeling

You've Felt "Better" Before — and Gotten Hurt Again

The injury calmed down, you returned to training, and then it happened again. Feeling better is not the same as being ready.

You Were Cleared — but You Still Don't Feel Confident

A verbal clear isn't data. Without objective testing, there's no way to know if your strength, power, and movement are where they need to be.

You Have a Timeline and Can't Afford to Get This Wrong

A season or competition is on the calendar. You need more than a clinical estimate — you need a test that confirms you're actually ready.

What Athletes Say About Testing With OPAL

Real results from athletes who got the data they needed to return to sport with confidence.

I've worked with Opal for 9 months and recommend them wholeheartedly. Dr. Riggins has fixed my problems and taught me how to get stronger so they won't come back. It's especially difficult to find a physical therapist who understands the issues that folks who run might face and who take the time to unravel problems and address them at the root. If that's what you're looking for this is your team.

I highly recommend OPAL! I saw Dr. Evan for an evaluation and he honestly changed my life. I have had a weak left hand (and wrist and elbow and shoulder) for years now. I saw a different PT several years ago for forearm and wrist pain and he didn't change anything over the many sessions we had. I came to believe that this is just how I am: a person lacking fine motor skills, with an inability to stabilize my joints. I had such a negative story that I told myself about my left arm. My "dumb" arm. I showed Dr. Evan how in quadruped position by left elbow is flimsy. He listened to my concerns and did some testing, concluding that my nerves were trapped and he brought out an anatomy book to show me. He did a few chiropractic adjustments and some manual therapy. When I returned to quadruped position I didn't even recognize my elbow joint! It actually was stable! I instantly started to cry. I was so relieved and happy. I had so much negative self talk wrapped up in that arm, as well as some belief that there was just something wrong with me and I would never be strong. But nope! Just some pesky trapped nerves. I am so grateful. He showed me some moves to help keep the nerves from becoming trapped again. It was truly a great experience.

I’ve worked with Magda for over six months now and she’s great! She’s curated a strength and mobility plan specifically for me that takes into account my injury history as well as work/running schedule to make sure it works for my lifestyle. She also reviews it with me monthly and will tweak as needed. She tests my problem areas every month and reworks anything that has crept up. I appreciate how individualized your experience is, the Opal team checks in on you consistently and will even congratulate you on your accomplishments. I get a message or postcard when I hit a big running milestone. They actually took the time to look up my race and see how I did. Their team really makes you feel valued as a client. Highly recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn how return-to-sport testing at OPAL works and what to expect.

Do you take insurance?

We're cash-based and out-of-network. We provide itemized receipts you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. We also accept HSA/FSA and offer payment plans.

Who is a good candidate for return-to-sport testing?

Return-to-sport testing is a good fit for athletes and active adults returning after an injury, surgery, or extended training break — and for anyone who wants objective data before stepping back into high-load training or competition. If you've been cleared clinically but still feel uncertain, testing can give you the confidence and specifics you need to go back with a plan.

How is this different from getting cleared by my doctor or surgeon?

A medical clearance confirms there are no contraindications to returning. Return-to-sport testing goes a step further — it measures whether your strength, movement quality, and functional performance meet the demands of what you're going back to. Many athletes pass medical clearance but still have strength asymmetries or movement deficits that raise re-injury risk. Testing identifies those gaps before you're back in it.

Do I need a referral to get tested?

No referral needed. Texas allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can book a phone consult directly. We'll review your injury history, confirm our approach is the right fit, and build a testing protocol around your specific sport and goals before your first session.

What happens if the testing shows I'm not ready?

You leave with a clear, specific plan for addressing the gaps — targeted exercises, load progressions, and a timeline for retesting. The goal isn't to hold you back; it's to give you real data so you return at the right time, not just the soonest possible one.
